What is your name/pen name/ name you are comfortable giving us?
Lacey Liu. 😉
What project or projects, if any, are you currently working on?
I’m finishing up a hockey harem romance novel called Breaking the Ice, about an embittered, disgraced hockey coach consigned to coach a losing college women’s team falling in love with his bratty captain.
What project or projects, if any, are on your back burner?
I’ve got an isekai romance in my back pocket about a Black labor organizer who gets hit by a police baton and gets transported to fantasyland. He can’t work magic, but he can transfer mana between one mage and another as they fall in love with him. So he goes about organizing a labor union in a medieval fantasy world.
Why do you write?
It makes money. Not, like, a lot, but it’s a steady income. And I started in a genre a universe away from romance (lol), and it’s fun and interesting to stretch my talents as a writer, learn new skills like character focus and how to structure a low-intensity conflict, and work to a different rhythm.
How long have you been writing? How much of that time seriously? (You define what seriously means.)
I’ve been working in romance since early 2026 and in erotica since 2017, but I’ve been writing for decades.
Do you have any published works?
A LOT! Most are super not-for-kids, and they’re available online. My latest one is Drunk on Desire: A Purim Transformation, the latest in my Holiday Hotties series. By the time this comes out, Breaking the Ice will be available for preorder if you prefer some romance mixed in with your smut. 🙂
What is the best part of writing for you?
Okay, honestly? Getting to stretch. Working on Breaking the Ice was fun because I’d never written a sports scene before; I’d written like one Rocky-style training montage and certainly not one that lasted three chapters, and I’d never really seriously handled a troperrific grumpy-older-man-and-spoiled-brat romance before. It demanded me to get better at things I’d never really tried before. And that’s fun. Rosalie is being a great exercise because she doesn’t talk, but she’s a huge character, so, like, how do you have her participate in a scene? Especially when you’re a mouthy, dialogue-heavy bitch like me.
What is the hardest part of writing to you?
EDITS EDITS EDITS. Fucking hate edits. I am so glad erotica and men’s romance require such quick turnaround times because it makes me stop editing faster and find more efficient ways to pass that particular shit.
How do you overcome writer’s block?
…what’s writer’s block? 😛 Like, no, seriously, I have too many ideas to worry about it. I’ve got sixteen or seventeen Breaking the Ice books in mind. I’ve got Benjamin Franklin: Monster MILF Hunter to get to. And that’s not even talking about all the bimboization smut I’ve had to put on ice to handle those two!
Have you ever seen the sun set over the ocean? (We’re Pen & Pier, we have to include the Pier somewhere.)
Dude, I just watched it happen from my back porch tonight.
How did you find Pen & Pier?
He’ll deny it up and down, but Joe. Joe and I know each other of old (see that? Shakespeare reference. Because I’m also a classy fucker.). I asked him to check in with me every week to make sure I wrote, and he brought me to Pen & Pier.
What is your favorite genre to write? What is your favorite genre to read?
I’m loving the romance, but honestly, I love writing and reading the transformation smut. Bimbos, himbos, racechange, age-up, age-down, TG, as long as it’s magical or superscience or whatever and the person really truly changes (and ideally gets all horn’t up). It’s really dried up on Amazon the last couple of years, for a number of reasons, but there’s a few other authors (Sadie Thatcher, Neil Bimbeau, Nadia Nightside) I am absolutely loyal to because they always produce something really interesting within the strict subgenre constraints of the kinks we write.
If you could collaborate with any writer, who would that be?
I’d love to do a series with Neil Bimbeau. He’s been such a mentor to me and I absolutely vibe with his contemporary slice-of-life/magical realism super-romantic sensibilities over the more usual isekai/fantasy/litRPG thing that pervades haremlit. I’d absolutely die if Sadie Thatcher wanted to do an erotic novella or, like, a trilogy with me. I think we’d be awesome, a last hurrah of bimboization shorts on Amazon before we finally collectively move upmarket into spicy romance or go into the West.
Would you like to live in your own stories? Why, or why not?
Um. Yeah? Uhhhh, okay, prooooooooobably not any of the old eroticas, but, like, in the Coastal Cities of Benjamin Franklin: Monster MILF Hunter or Val-des-Loups in Breaking the Ice? Hell yeah. I’d totally join Ben Franklin’s harem, too. And Val-des-Loups has good shitty poutine, just, everywhere. The Tim Hortons closes before nightfall though.
What book(s) or stories would you want everyone to read? The one(s) that keep you going all night, if someone asks about them.
I’m really proud of Sugar and I hope people will read my haremlit. I’m really enjoying doing romance.
What are you looking forward to the most for your writing within the next year?
I’m in edits on Breaking the Ice 1 and drafting book 2. With 1, I had to really draw inside the lines, but books 2 and 3 are giving me a lot more freedom. To start with, I have room to introduce some of the major supporting characters and give JL a little breathing room in book 2, and more scenes of him and others just kind of hanging out. I’m also looking forward to writing Benjamin Franklin: Monster MILF Hunter just for the total shift in tone and subgenre. What I’m hoping is to get Breaking the Ice well and truly on its way by this time next year, have the first five or six books out, and see what happens when I release Benjamin Franklin out into the wild.
